RefWorks - workshops

The Shapiro Science Library is offering drop-in workshops to introduce users to RefWorks. The first will be on Wed, Feb. 7, 3-4 PM in 4059 Shapiro.

RefWorks is bibliographic management software available free to UM affiliates, including undergraduate students. Much like EndNote, RefWorks helps users record the literature they consult, properly cite sources and create reference lists. RefWorks is web-based and available via a subscription held by the University Library.

After searching a textual database, the student can move selected citations from the database into RefWorks. Citations can also be entered manually. Once citations are in RefWorks the student can insert them into the text of Word documents and create a reference list in a chosen format. Thus, RefWorks is a valuable tool in researching and preparing term papers and reports. RefWorks is fairly basic citation management software and useable by undergraduates. Graduate students, faculty members and researchers though will also find value in it.

To help students learn RefWorks, the Science Library offers four drop-in training sessions:

Wednesday Feb 7 3:00 - 4:00 pm
Monday Feb 12 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Thursday Feb 15 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Friday Feb 16 12:00 - 1:00 pm
(Michigan time)

All sessions will meet in the University Library Instructional Center, 4059 Shapiro Library. Questions? Contact Patricia Yocum.
