New Name For SFX

The University Library unveiled a new SFX/FindIt button on March 28th. After extensive user testing, the Library determined that users prefer the phrase "Get It" over "SFX" or "Find It" as a button label. Look for the new button in Web of Science, CSA, and all other library databases.

Berts Cafe Coming to Shapiro

A very generous gift from alumnus Bertram Askwith (LSA 31) will fund and name a new coffee shop, Berts Cafe, in the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. This gift marks the first phase of renovations planned for Shapiro and continues his generosity to the U-M Library. In 2005 he funded the naming and new home of the Askwith Media Library, also housed in the Shapiro Building.

Construction, continued

The construction area in front of the Shapiro Library is expanding as the work progresses. Starting April 2, the diagonal walkway will be fenced off. East-west access will be maintained directly in front of the library building.

This project will repair and upgrade service tunnels and the utilities within them. The good news is that the loudest part of the work will wait until after final exams.

Construction in front of Shapiro Library

A comprehensive replacement project was authorized a few years ago to begin replacement, one section at a time, of a vast network of service and utility tunnels. Work will begin soon to replace and upgrade utilities in the tunnel running from Hatcher, across the front of Shapiro, and over to Randall Lab. Temporary fencing will go up soon, possibly starting March 8.

While pedestrian detours will be necessary, building access will be maintained from all directions throughout the project, which will continue through most of 2007.
