2009: International Year of Astronomy
2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first observations through a telescope. In commemoration of this event, the International Astronomical Union and UNESCO have organized the International Year of Astronomy, an international celebration of astronomical discovery. With numerous participating US agencies such as NASA, the American Astronomical Society and the National Science Foundation, IYA in the USA is shaping up to be an action-packed year.
