Power Point Workshops - Faculty Exloratory
A number of you have asked about the Power Point workshops offered by the Faculty Exploratory. They are listed as being for faculty only and there were requests for sessions that SI students could attend. The Head of the Faculty Exploratory has invited you to register for the Power Point workshops currently listed.
Here are the two FE PP workshops currently on offer:
Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations
9/24/2007 1:00 PM-3:00 PM - Faculty Exploratory
If you present the same material semester after semester or in numerous conferences, learning PowerPoint can save you lots of valuable time. Engage your audience with a visually appealing presentation that includes text, graphics, and even sounds if you want to add them. You'll also learn how to print handouts in a variety of ways depending on your needs. This is an introductory level course. This workshop is for faculty. (You can ignore this.)
Intermediate PowerPoint: Multimedia, Drawing Tools, Templates & More
10/12/2007 1:00 PM-3:00 PM - Faculty Exploratory
Do you feel like you know the basics of PowerPoint and want to make your presentation even better? In this session, we'll add multimedia to a slide (and talk about problems that can come up), work more with the drawing tools, and add a chart from Excel. If there's time, you'll learn how to create a custom template that you can use over and over. You should have a good grasp of basic PowerPoint, including making new slides, changing fonts, adding images, etc.
To find the list of workshops, go to the Faculty Exploratory homepage:
http://www.lib.umich.edu/exploratory/
And click on the Workshops & Registration heading in the left column.

Jobs at the Library
The official way to go about getting a job at the library is to go to Library Human Resources and fill out an application. Library HR is located in room 404 on the 4th floor of the North building of the Graduate Library. (This is the older building, the entry to which is off of the DIAG. Stop at Circulation or the Reference Desk for directions.)
Main page:

Student (temporary/hourly) Positions
http://www.lib.umich.edu/hr/employment/student_job.html
Unofficially, the way to get better positions is to talk to the librarian or staff member who is overseeing the types of activities you're interested in. Often there are opportunities around the library that are not in the system.

SEGSI Student Introductions
Some of the second year SI students have generously volunteered their time to SEGSI. Take a look at their
introductions, and feel free to contact them with questions you may have about their specializations, jobs, time at SI, or interests. Click on their names to email them!
Introduction to Anne Thomason
My name is Anne Thomason and I'm a second year SI student specializing in ARM. I am an officer in SAA, work 4 jobs, and take classes too. My interests include digital preservation, university special collections, reference work in archives and libraries, and non-profit information management issues. I work at ICPSR, Bentley Historical Library, Hatcher Library Information and Reference Center, and the Kettering Foundation. I enjoy traveling just about anywhere, music, movies, food, and SEGSI--so feel free to get in touch with me about anything.
Introduction to Buzzy Nielsen
Hello! I'm Buzzy Nielsen, a dual degree student at SI(specializing in LIS and Community Informatics) and the Ford School of Public Policy. In taking classes, I also work on the Hatcher reference desk, am a research assistant for the University Librarian, and serve as a Public Library Associate at the Ann Arbor District Library's Northeast branch. My interests include public libraries, library policy, information policy, government information, the nonprofit sector, and public management. Feel free to ask me just about anything and/or friend me on Facebook.
Cheers!
Introduction to Melissa Perez
I am a second year HCI student, and am a officer for SOCHI
Interests: Traveling out of the country, fly-fishing, scuba diving, hiking, writing in iambic pentameter, eating really yummy food, cooking, hanging out with my family, and (attempts at) knitting. (I can sometimes be surprisingly shy, but I warmly welcome people to come up to me and say hello.)
