GIS (Spatial Analysis) Certificate at the U of M

If you are interested in learning more about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or pursuing data librarianship, you might be interested in pursuing the Spatial Analysis Certificate offered here at the U of M. A copy of the full content of the handout on this topic can be found in the SEGSI CTools site in the Resources folder.

Thanks to SI students Jennifer Doty and Dianne Dietrich, both of whom are pursuing the Spatial Analysis Certificate, expected graduation May 2008, for compiling and presenting this information.

http://www.snre.umich.edu/degree_programs/spatial_analysis
Provides an overview of the program, but not many details or specifics. Includes the official Program of Application, Numeric Code and Plan Numbers you will need when you fill out your application for Rackham.

This site hasn't been updated in a while, but it does provide a list of courses that count toward the certificate. It also provides some guidance on GIS course sequences in Urban Planning and SNRE.

Tools for creating bibliographies

Need help creating citations and bibliographies for written work? Fear not, a variety of tools and resources (including people) are available to you.

The University Library website has some pages devoted to this topic. Here you will find information on various bibliographic software tools, as well as citation guides.

Hatcher also has a list of helpful websites for formatting citations.

You can also visit the Information and Reference desk in Hatcher and ask for a printed APA or MLA citation guide.

The Ready Reference shelves near the Information and Reference desk house several style guides, as well.

If you'd like to learn how to use various bibliographic management programs, there are several places to get help.

The Knowledge Navigation Center (KNC) has several bibliographic management guides on their website.

The KNC and the Faculty Exploratory often hold classes on using various bibliographic management tools (EndNote, RefWorks, and LibX & Zotero).

If you prefer 1-on-1 help, you can schedule a time to talk with someone at the KNC.

And don't forget, you can always Ask a Librarian!
