Federal Career Day

The SI Career Development Office, along with Students Interested in Information Policy SIIP, bring you a whole day of career events to help you explore, plan and effectively pursue a federal career—no matter what your specialization is, there is a federal career for you!

SI Federal Career Day-Tuesday, January 25th

• Federal Careers/Job Search Panel

Professionals from a variety of Federal careers will discuss their own career pathways, federal opportunities and outlook, agency trends, federal job search process, and anything else you would like to know about a federal
career. Information shared today will cross over all specializations. This is not a specialization-specific panel. It will be relevant to any and all SI students interested in a federal career! The last part of the program will be an opportunity for students to network with the panelists. So come prepared to ask questions and interact!

• FEATURED SPEAKER - Federal Annenberg Speaker from the National Institutes of Health
• Federal Trade Commission
• Government Accountability Office, and more!

The panel session will take place from 11:30-12:30, and will be followed by a networking/mixer with the panelists from 12:30-1:00. Light refreshments will be served.

Meet with the NIH Annenberg Speaker for more individualized career advice and get lunch. Space is limited to 6-7 students. First to sign-up is first-served. Contact Shamille@umich.edu if you are interested in attending the luncheon ASAP!

• One-On-One Federal Career Consultations with the NIH

These will be set up as 20 minute individual appointments for you to sit down with a federal employee from the NIH to discuss career and job search topics ranging from the following:

• Federal career opportunities
• Federal career opportunities specific to the NIH
• Agency trends and employment outlook
• How to create a federal resume that stands out online – we will ask students to bring their resumes if they want you to review it
• Presidential Management Fellowship program
• Federal internship programs
• Tips on how to effectively navigate and apply for jobs through USAjobs
• What to expect and how to prepare for a federal interview

Sign up for an interview slot through iTrack by January 20th. You MUST HAVE AN APPROVED RESUME in iTrack to be able to sign up for an interview.
