As part of its Education and Outreach Program for 2009-2010, the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) will offer a two-day undergraduate workshop on topics of current interest in statistics and applied mathematics. In addition to an overview of current and planned SAMSI Research Programs, the program topic Space-Time Analysis for Environmental Mapping, Epidemiology and Climate Change will be covered in some depth.
This workshop will be held on October 30 and 31, 2009 at SAMSI. The program will begin at 9:30 AM on Friday, October 30, and will be completed by 12 noon on Saturday, October 31. Applications received by Friday, September 25, 2009, will receive full consideration.
The precise schedule for the workshop will be posted shortly. There will be act
1. research presentations from the participants in the SAMSI program on spatial-time analysis for environmental mapping, epidemiology and climate change http://www.samsi.info/programs/2009spatialprogram.shtml
At least one talk on climate related applications and one on epidemiology is expected.
2. two lab sessions in which specific applications discussed under 1. are considered in more details; typically, this involves hands on approach and use of specific software.
3. tutorials on basic math/stat software (R or MATLAB for instance).
