Discover Financial Services

From a former student currently working at Discover Financial Services:

I am contacting specific departments at the University of Michigan, in particular Math, Statistics, Economics, and Engineering, because Discover is interested in hiring strategic, analytical thinkers directed towards these majors specifically from the University of Michigan. Discover Financial Services will be at the Fall Career Fair, Wednesday, September 29th from 2:00 to 6:00 PM where resumes can be dropped, other any student can email me their resume. From those resumes, candidates will be selected for interviews in the Fall.

As a Michigan alum, I hope you encourage students in your students to apply. The program we are hiring for is called Operations Leadership Program (OLP). It is a two-year entry level rotational program for recent college graduates. Individuals joining the OLP will work on helping to provide answers to strategic business challenges that Discover faces. The program consists of an extensive training curriculum to prepare the participant for project rotations within the Cardmember Services and Consumer Banking (CSCB) department. The rotations include data analysis, project management, process management, and supervisory opportunities. Upon successful completion of the two year program, participants will be placed permanently within one of the CSCB divisions.

Program Overview:

The Discover Leadership Program is a rotational management training program that provides all participants with:

* A 3-week integrated training program that includes intensive
industry and organizational knowledge, imparted through a
combination of classroom training, business simulations and real-
world projects
* Challenging project assignments that support Discover’s strategic
priorities and objectives
* A dedicated Program Manager to provide leadership continuity,
ongoing performance feedback and coaching on career direction
* Hand-selected Rotational Managers, identified for their business
expertise and their acumen in managing and developing people
* Cross-functional knowledge, experience and contacts
* Ongoing developmental training

Currently, I have been working in the program for about three months and it has been a great experience. As a big company and working in their headquarters, there are many possibilities of work and departments to learn. Additionally, in this program, you have the comradery of 16 other recent graduates to work and train with. Please forward this to your students and encourage them to either send me their resume or have them come by the Fall Career Expo on Wednesday, the 29th.
