AMAZING NIGHT!

I HAD SUCH AND AWESOME NIGHT TONIGHT! AHHHHH! I went to see Tally Hall at the Union. They're kind of a silly bad but they are really good. It was just a really excellent concert and I was really close. There was one, sometimes two people in front of me. At the end one of the members signed my poster and my friend Katie and I got a picture with him. Then on the way back to Bursley, Katie and I made friends with some of the other kids waiting for the Bursley/Baits bus who were at the concert. And Prof. G., I think you will be glad that I informed them all about Dr. Ira Lunan Ferguson on the bus. Ha, one thing lead to another. I think we need to give out pins to people with the website address on them. Overall, a really great night. When we parted ways they all said "See you later." Hmm, I wonder...

Today

Exhausted. Today was a great day though. Went to Panera. Did not have to stalk people down to get table. Had bacon, egg, cheese breakfast sandwich (even though it was pushing it for breakfast but they still had eggs so I got one.) and then bought a bagel for later. Then hung out with hall friend for an hour. Then walked down to the art school in the sunny weather, wearing a sweatshirt (not a winter jacket!) while listening to the new album I bought from iTunes on my iPod. Then made giant puppets for a few hours ( I actually like paper macheing. Then went down town with friend and tried to get tickets for the concert at the Union on Tuesday but the ticket office was not open. Then went with friend to meet my cousin at Noodles & Co. who was in town to see her ex who she is still friends and ate with my friends, cousin, her ex and his roommate. It was a really good time and they were really nice guys. Then wrote and recorded a birthday song for Elly. Then watch Aladdin with other friends.

Bugging My Roommate

Thanks to Prof. G. I had a blast bugging my roommate today. She put the recordable speakers in my mailbox so that I could use them for my talking doll. I decided that I had to get some fun out of them before I placed them inside the doll ( not finished). I recorded "sexy" on one of them and kept pressing it. Then my roommates friend came in and started laughing. My roommate told her "Oh, its funny at first..." Ha, I still think it's funny. Ah the simple pleasures of life...

No class

No class tomorrow! I am so pumped! That means that I get more sleep tomorrow! And I get to go home early! Awesome! And its Easter this weekend! What does that mean?! CANDY IN THE SHAPE OF EGGS AND BUNNIES! ...Oh, and the resurrection of Jesus... Ha, kidding.

So, I am eating Animal Cracker and was thinking about them. No, I am not going to go into the endless Cookie vs. Cracker debate, which I am not sure if it will ever be solved. No. I was thinking about what it would be like if they made the animals to scale because right now, the rabbit is the same size as the elephant, and somehow, FAR MORE intimidating. What if the elephant was large and the rabbit was tiny. Hmmm. Except I did find that picture of a bunny recently that was roughly the size of an elephant. It was ENORMOUS.

Friend

I just got done writing my friend who I met at camp a couple years ago a message. We used to email but now we communicate through Facebook. I really miss her a lot. We plan to hang out this summer sometime over one of the weekends that I am up near Alpena. She doesn't plan to work at camp at all this summer like she was originally planning to but she lives about an hour away from camp so hopefully it will still be easy to see her. I hope to be able to see her more than for just a day but I guess we'll see how things work out. It could even be as easy as her driving to camp for that hour to hang out and then drive back. I would like to see where she lives and what-not too though.

Papers 2

I will probably still have to write papers for the next three years still. Why did I even say probably? I know I will. It's not that I hate writing. I do not hate writing. I really don't mind writing short stories. I enjoy writing in journals. I don't mind writing these blogs, even though I'd rather not write blogs everyday because I sometimes forget to and lately I really have not been feeling like using the computer over the weekends. Even though I hate writing essays, if they are 2-3 pages long, I don't really mind it. The weird thing is that everyone tells me I am really long winded in emails. A lot of times I find myself sitting down to write a three sentence email but end up writing about 100x that much. When it comes to papers, I have a harder time elaborating and expanding my ideas. That is when I prefer to be right to the point.

Screen Space

I hate it how when I am writing a paper, I have so many different pages open that they are all spread out at the bottom. Yes, they are tiny when I minimize them but there are a lot of them so they still get on my nerves. I tried using tabs for some of them but then I get confused. And it's probably all in my head but I feel like they take longer to load when they are tabs.

Distractions

Since I am still writing my paper, I am of course, still getting distracted. Right now I am distracted by my thoughts of camp. AH! I'm so excited for camp this summer! I am going to be a counselor and I am PSYCHED! This will be my first year as a counselor. I volunteered in the kitchen last summer and was a camper for a couple years before that. I'm still not completely sure who all the other counselors are yet. I have an idea of a few of the people that will be there this summer but some I am still not sure about. Wonder if there will be any new counselors besides me. I think most of them will be returning counselors.

Papers

I never have concentration/focus issues as badly as I do when I am writing papers! This is terrible! I generally have music playing lightly in the background to keep me calm because I hate writing essays. A song that I found through a show that I really like just came on and now all I can think about is how I have not watched it in a really long time and now I really want to watch it. I have it on DVD and now I have to fight off temptation! Ahhhhh!!!!!!

Tuesday the 18th but it's after midnight, so technically, Wednesday

So, I am feeling quite groggy at the moment because I accidentally took a nap. Yup, that's right. Man, the end of the year is rough.
Well, my roommate's boyfriend is staying in our room for a number of days. He goes to school in Arizona...I think. My roommate introduced me and said, "She's not always that pale white color, she's usually more pink than that." When I'm not feeling well I get more pale than I usually am. I didn't really have any energy to be myself today but he has pretty much already met me because at the beginning of the year, the two of them would video chat all the time. She introduced us over video chat and I of course would chirp in in the background just as a good roommate should. Haha. (That was pretty much just when she wanted to introduce us though. I'm not that rude.)

Michael Welch

Michael Welch is a funny dude. He is the actor that was cast for the part of Mike Newton in the much anticipated Twilight movie. Twilight is the first of a series of books that has gained a large fan base which I will probably blog about later when I have more energy. I already knew of Michael Welch previous to his being cast because he was on the television show Joan of Arcadia. I really enjoyed him in his role on that show (especially the episode where he gets high, gets the munchies, then goes completely paranoid. hilarious.) and I think he was cast pretty well as Mike Newton. I think he will bring more like-ability to a character who is otherwise somewhat annoying at times. I think it will help us as an audience to sympathize with him a bit more. I think that him being in this movie will expand his fan base and I think it already has. Some of the girls of the Phases podcast already really like him for his geeky/good guy quality. They recently posted that fans should check out his blog. He is quite funny. He recently coined the term "Twi-hards" to describe the intense Twilight fandom, which, in a way, is similar to the Harry Potter fandom. Well, his phrase was used on MTV, I guess (I don't watch MTV but I read it somewhere) and then it broke out everywhere. Some fans are offended by it but I like it. Its definitely better than "Twilighters" which so many fans prefer. I think he meant it in an endearing way though from reading his blog where I think he originally said it.

Feast of Love

I watched Feast of Love today because I was not feeling well so it was nice to rest and watch a movie for a while. I thought it was good. The title makes it seem like its going to be cheesy but I didn't think it was cheesy. It followed the connections between a group of people and their love lives. There was a professor and his wife. They were very happy together and loved each other very much (and hey Prof. G! They had an INTRA-racial marriage!) but they were still very sad about the death of their son which was caused by an overdose. The professor was friends with this guy whose wife left him because she fell in love with another woman. The man goes through other troubles in the love department. This man owned a coffee shop in which one of his employees fell for a girl seeking employment in the coffee shop. I probably shouldn't say anything else so as not to ruin the movie for others planning to see it.

Sick

Do not feel good today. Do not want to be on the computer. It really sucks getting sick as a college student. Especially when we are nearing the end of the year. So much homework yet I still do not have the energy to do hardly anything today. Hoping I will feel better tomorrow.

Previews

I think its really interesting the way movie previews have an impact on us. Some movie previews are really good! You know, those ones that have you on the edge of your seat and make you feel really antsy and smiley because you want to see it so badly. They even make you turn to your neighbor and say "Ah! I want to see that one sooooooo bad!" Previews are intense because it is essentially the whole movie wrapped up in about a minute's time, set to music that sets the tone for the movie and leaves you in suspense because you do not know how it ends!

Movies Rented

I watched a bunch of movies this weekend while I did my homework. I rented Bee Movie, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Nancy Drew, and The Darjeeling Limited. I had not seen any of these movies previously. Looking at my choice of movies kind of shows the stage of life I am in right now. In a way, I rented two movies intended for children and two movies that are more mature (not to say that the 40 Year Old Virgin is mature, but it should not be watched by children). Right now I am growing up and maturing, but trying not to loose my "inner child." I enjoyed all the movies I have watched so far--all of them but The Darjeeling Limited. I just started watching The Darjeeling Limited but I like it so far! On it there was a preview for Feast Of Love which is the next movie I plan to rent.

Computers

I think computers are great. They open up a whole world of possibilities when it comes to communication. Computers help me to keep in touch with friends that I do not live by. They also help teachers to communicate with students when they need to inform them about a project. I just really did not want to use the computer this weekend though. I just really wanted a break from them. However, I'm basically supposed to use this thing every day now.

Ides of March

Today is the Ides of March. It also happens to be my friend, Jackie's, birthday. I gave her a pair of big flamingo earrings as a gift. I found them at Treasure Mart and thought of her. Tomorrow is the birthday of one of my best friends from home. I got her some gifts too but not at Treasure Mart as I had originally planned because it was closed by the time I got there and I didn't find anything that reminded me of her when I found Jackie's gift. Hopefully she will like what I got her though.

Doll

Now I think I will be making something different for my TMP project than what I originally decided to do. I originally intended to make trading cards that would have quotes or facts about Ira. I will now be making a talking Dr. Ira Lunan Ferguson doll. I and going to use the small recordable speakers that my teacher has and place them inside the stuffed doll I plan to make. The speakers only record very short things so I'm not sure what I will make them say yet. Hope it works out, I've never sewn a doll before...

High School Friends

In discussion today, we talked about how college kids keep in touch with their high school friends way more than they used to because of the technology we have available today: facebook, cell phones, instant messaging, video chats, and email. This week I've been trying to get ahold of one of my friends who is currently home for spring break. We've been playing phone tag and I finally was able to get one of her calls today. It kept getting dropped though until her cell phone battery eventually died. Then we continued our conversation through instant messages. We talked for a long time because we needed to catch up. It had been about two weeks since we had had a real conversation and there was alot to discuss.

Critiques

Usually in CFC we spend sometimes up to a half an hour on each person's work of art, but today we went through everyone's pieces pieces in forty-five minutes. Either everyone's work is improving alot, or work just seems better when you don't spend a half hour knit-picking. I think its both.

Persepolis

Today I asked my roommate if she has read Persepolis or seen the movie. I pronounced it per-sep-o-lis and she said that I was pronouncing it wrong. She said that it is pronounced pers-po-lis. Everyone that I have heard pronounces it the way I do. I also looked it up on answers.com and the website states that it is pronounced the way I thought. However, my roommate's mother is Iranian so I would think she would be an authority on the subject. So I really have no idea how it is supposed to be pronounced.

Video Jug

Video Jug. Life explained on film.
I think that Video Jug is a great idea. It is kinda silly because it can teach you everything from how to "Heal Your Heartbreak" to "How To Make Crisp Fried Mushroom Ravioli." The most recent thing that I have turned to Video Jug for is to learn the most effective way to make a camp fire. I think that Video Jug is great because it gives a visual. One also does not have to read the steps, which in a way, can be more effective. People can even send in requests for videos that they want. It is a great way to get MESSAGES across.

Easy Mac

Easy Mac is not very good... unless you are very very hungry. One way to make it taste better is if you let it sit for a while, stirring occasionally, the sauce gets thicker and the Easy Mac tastes better. One time I didn't have that much time to let it sit so I stuck it in the fridge so that it would cool down, hoping that would thicken the sauce. I think it would have worked if I had time to leave it in there for a bit longer.

Missing Lecture

I had dreams that I decided not to go to school today. Then I woke up and really didn't want to go to class because i wasn't feeling that great and already felt like I wasn't going from my dream. I had to go to class though because the majority of the information we need to know for the test is given during the lectures and students are informed to just listen and not take many notes so I wouldn't be able to learn from other people's notes.

Massage

One tool that is missing from our art tool bags? A personal massager thing. I starting to wonder if an aching back is just part of being an artist. I'm sure other kinds of students backs hurt as well but I feel that as an artist, I hunch more than non-artists. Maybe I just need to find a way to have good posture while doing art work but I really cannot think of a way to do that. Or we could just all have access to a masseuse that would work in the art school...I'm sure they would get a lot of business.

Project Ideas

It is awesome to have more than one project idea for an assignment. Lately I keep coming up with multiple ideas. The problem is it makes it harder to start the assignment because I'm not sure which idea I should go with. This is currently happening to me with my Wearable final project right now. I originally wanted to make a dress for swing dancing that looked like it was from the time period that swing originated. I could could not find any vintage patterns in my size. Then I ended up getting a pattern for a button up dress with short sleeves because I thought that it at least kind of suited the 1940s. Then I found these awesome olive colored buttons at a knitting shop. At Joanns I found this beautiful chartreuse colored linen that looks great with the olive colored buttons. However, my teacher said that it is not artsy enough. That it is just a nice dress that anyone can make and it is not right for an art school assignment. I then came up with another idea that was more conceptual and completely different from the original. I am going to take a blouse pattern that I have and extend that into and child-like dress. I also made the original idea more conceptual but that is just turning out corny so i think i will do my second idea. I'm not sure if I should make the dress out of the fabric that I originally intended for the other dress when I still would like to make the other dress another time.

Bedtime

Like all children, when I was little and it was bedtime, I did not want to go to sleep. My mom recently told me that when it was bedtime I would say, "I'll eat my vegetables now..."
I also would always want to watch a movie. My mom would let me but she would only let me watch something ridiculously boring, such as the tape we had on how to tell time. It would bore me right to sleep. I vaguely remember having one of those race car beds. It was pink. I can't remember if I actually had one though...I'll ask my mom later.

Counting

I have a friend that loves to count money. Now you would think that she loves to count money because it reminds her how much money she has. Nope. She just loves to count. You want to know how much she loves to count? She once counted the amount of bumps on a basket ball. She did this by marking each dot she counted with a Sharpie.
Counting can be boring. Counting can be meditative. Counting can supposedly help you fall asleep...well not help me fall asleep.
Side note: A trick that my roommate taught me is, when you are having a hard time falling asleep, focus on your forehead. After a while your forehead will start to feel really heavy. Then your eyelids feel really heavy and your whole body just feels like its sinking into the bed.

Grandma Flavored

When it comes to candy and, more importantly, ice cream, I generally prefer flavors that my friends think are "old lady flavors." One day in the Blue Apple, I was looking at the Ben & Jerry's section with a friend and my other friend was behind me and said "I love grandma flavored ice cream!" as I was turning around. Well, of course it was not my friend, but rather some girl that I had frightened. My peripheral vision was slightly messed up because my hair was in my eyes at the time. Hard candy-wise, I really like Werthers and ice cream-wise, I really like anything with caramel, toffee, or coffee. Although, pretty much any flavor of Ben & Jerry's is good. I haven't had the kind with banana flavor in it though, I'm a bit weary of it.

3rd Rock

Lately I have been re-watching 3rd Rock from the Sun, a sitcom about four aliens sent to study Earth. While it is a very silly show, I think it is very thought provoking. It forces us to look at objects, situations, and ideas from an outsiders perspective, sometimes pointing out ridiculousness. Each of the characters are equally funny in their own way. Some of them were assigned to human bodies that are quite opposite their personalities. The information officer, who is the eldest of the group, is assigned the identity of a teenager dealing with puberty and high school. The lieutenant, with a very masculine personality, is assigned the identity of a 30-ish tall, leggy blonde. The transmitter, who has a communication chip in his head to allow the group to communicate with their supreme leader, The Big Giant Head, is an odd man who wears unusual clothing. The High Commander assumes the role of a physics professor who thinks he is "gorgeous." In one of the first episodes, the High Commander is seen interacting with a tissue box in his office. He is shocked that tissues keep coming out so he tries to surprise it when the tissue box does not expect it.

Touching the Tough Topics

Lately there have been a lot of discussions going on around me-some I participate in and others I just listen to- about topics we were always taught not to speak about in public: religion and politics. I feel that part of it is because it is in a college environment and also in part because I am in the art department. I think that these topics are discussed in art school because some students have projects incorporating these topics... and artists just like to provoke people sometimes. These discussions have all been quite civil though. I was in the sewing studio the night before the Wearables project was due and there was a long discussion that was mainly against organized religion.

Johnny Tsunami

I would like to talk about one of the Disney Channel movies that I used to love as a kid. There was Johnny Tsunami, a story about the grandson of a famous surfer. He was from Hawaii and then had to move to somewhere like Colorado because of his father's career. He was bummed because it was really cold there, there was no surf, the cafeteria served crappy pineapple out of a can, all the kids at the private prep school he went to were snobby little brats and skiing was really hard. BUT THEN! he met this "army brat" from a public school who taught him to snow board! Then he was happy but all the preps hated him even more. They really hated it when he called them "bra," instead of "bro..." (I don't really get the whole "bra" thing either though...are they too lazy to say "bro?" that is already shortened from brother and a bra is a woman's undergarment...) He learned about how the snow hill is divided. The good side is for skiiers, in other words, the private school kids (or squids as they are called in the movie) and the not-quite-as-good side was for snow boarders, who were all public school kids (urchins). Then his new best friend found out he had to move again because of his dad so they decided to run away to Hawaii to stay with Johnny's awesome grandfather and so Sam (his best friend) could learn to surf. They eventually have to go back to Colorado where Johnny is in trouble. But then Johnny's grandpa comes up and Johnny learns that his grandpa is actually an awesome snow boarder too. Johnny challenges Bret (the main jerk at his school) to a race with Johnny on snowboard and Bret on skis. The race was to decide if the good mountain would be shared or if it would stay the same. Guess who wins... Johnny obviously. Awesome movie for a kid. But what did Disney do to ruin it? They made a ridiculously crappy sequel. Ugh! I am so irritated with sequels lately! Ok, not all sequels are bad, BUT ALOT OF THEM ARE!

Fame and Disney Channel

I would like to point out that lately Disney has been putting a large focus on fame. The Cheetah Girls (possibly one of the worst movies out there) was all about a group of girl singers becoming famous. Hannah Montanna-which is so huge now that parents went crazy trying to get tickets for their children but they were all sold out-is about a girl living a dual life: that of a normal teenage girl and that of a "rock star." They even make Hannah Montana wigs. I was at a restaurant sometime this year and there was a sudden stampede of girls in disgusting straight blonde wigs. There was a movie about a girl that was really unpopular at school and then discovered she looked exactly like this one model when she bumped into her in a bathroom. They then switch lives and the unpopular girl goes out with Justin Timberlake's character, who is also a model...I will admit, I liked the movie when I first saw it a long time ago. I haven't seen it in a long time so I don't know if I would still enjoy it. One of the characters on the Suite Life of Zac and Cody is a famous heiress. These are just a few example of fame as a theme on the Disney Channel.

The Toenails of Old

Toenail clippers did not always exist. Those crazy little toenail scissors did not always exist. What did people do before they did exist?! Would they just keep letting their toenails grow until they broke off? I think there were probably far more ingrown toenails in the past than there are today. Files probably existed but I think it would be somewhat tedious to file toenails. I am also not sure how expensive or readily available files would have been...
Food for thought? Hmmm... Everyone can feel free to let me know what they think or know on the matter though.

Blogs

I cannot believe I keep forgetting to write blogs. It is ridiculous and I feel bad about it. I really have tried to remind myself. My friend wrote a silly note to me on my dry erase board on the outside of my door reminding me to blog. I think that I got used to seeing it though and stopped reading it and then it got erased so that helped for a while. I tried writing it on a Post-it. However, I get kind of Post-it happy so they are already all over my desk. I am very used to seeing Post-its so that system doesn't really work as well as it should. For a while I tried attaching a Post-it with the word blog on it to my computer. It got torn and, once again, I got used to seeing it. The problem here is getting used to reminders. How to deal with that? Hmmmmm, I'll think about it. One thing that I thought of was that I could put a post-it over part of the screen of my computer. It is a good idea because it would get in my way so I would notice it. The down side? It would get in my way! Then I would probably remove it and it would no longer be effective...Hmph. Well, anyway, I am going to try to make up for all the blogs that I have missed by writing multiple ones a day. I understand that it is not the same thing. I think the point of writing a blog everyday is to squeeze out something that you were pondering, having issues with or just talk about your day. That thing you were pondering might make other people think. Others might have solutions to your problems. Sometimes its nice to talk about your day without forcing it on other people. Then people can read if they wish to. It's a good way to get your "MESSAGES" out into the world.

Swing Shoes

I have blisters. Really big ones on my feet. What from? Swing dancing in my Chucks tonight. I don't know why I got blisters tonight when I wear the same shoes every week. It was kinda funny because I had been there for around two hours and then told the guy that I was currently dancing with that I thought I was going to leave because my feet were hurting and then I ended up telling him I could feel that I was getting blisters. As I was packing up my things to go, guys kept coming over and asking if I was leaving so I told them that I was. They then said, "Come on, one last dance," and then my partner from before would inform them of my blister situation. It was kinda funny. For girls/follows it is good to have shoes that do not grip the floor too much. I think that a leather sole is probably ideal but shoes that have leather soles are generally not very comfortable. Follows have to do a lot of turns and twists so if their shoes grip the ground too much, it can torque their ankles or knees. I have decided that I will probably bring my moccasins to swing next week because they are soft and do not have rubber on the bottom.
