blog support

I'm doing a lot more support on mblog of late. It will probably be good for me to identify some things that could be improved in a future version of the software. Right now I'm having a devil of a time getting the css updates to work as I'd expect. What's the deal with that, I wonder?

webmaster primary mblog support

The UM webmaster team is now going to provide primary support for mblog. Perhaps this will be business as usual, though.

New car in the house

So Beth, after months of waiting, finally got her Honda Fit, not in exactly the color she wanted. But as a choice of waiting 2-3 months longer to get the dark blue, the light blue started looking quite good (it is rather handsome).

It gets pretty good gas mileage, has decent cargo capacity (with lots of folding seat options), and we got the musiclink option, which is Honda's iPod integration solution. At the moment, we're using the latter in its most basic way, since the word on the advanced functionality of the musiclink is not good. Basic will do us for now.

in search of the wily weasel

Sadly, we did not get to the ferret shelter as planned. We weren't able to coordinate with the shelter and are still trying to set up a time.

We're giving Dooley extra playtime, which he seems to enjoy, but in some ways, having only one ferret may be more work than having more than one. (In other ways, it's less work, though. Funny how that works).

the business of weasel acquisition

Things have been rough lately in our household. We've lost a number of pet ferrets to illness in the last few months, sometimes without a lot of advanced warning. At present, we have just one weasel at home (Dooley), and there is certainly the possibility that he's a bit lonely. We're trying to give him extra attention, but there's nothing like having another weasel to snuggle with in a hammock.

So we're off to the ferret shelter tomorrow to see if there's anyone there he likes. He was there last weekend when Beth was helping with ear cleaning and nail trimming, but he got a bit overwhelmed and some weasels were picking on him a bit. He's an easygoing guy though, and will likely get along with lots of different personalities.

This is a test, of course

So UM is going to be running a campus-wide blogging functionality, based on moveable type. That's cool. There may be customers on campus who can't use this to meet instructional needs, but perhaps as the service matures there will be improvements in access-control options and things of that nature. And a lot of the community has already met this need with off-campus solutions, I expect, but folks arriving on campus may take advantage of this new service if it gets good press.

For now, it's fun to type in a simple form and have good looking stuff show up!

Kudo's to Patrick and the folks at the University Library!
