On the third day of working with the kids at Bidhan Chandra, I feel that some things are falling into place better than others. It really has been a challenge communicating with the kids directly, despite two interpreters by the side. Another challenge I am dealing with is the introduction of simple exercises in general. Some of my kids are working on standing on one leg at a time as I time them. Other children are working on body parts that they can because the majority of their movement is disabled. Nonetheless, I have received promising feedback from kids and teachers for just a short time of participating. Perhaps its just having someone different to deal with that is the most amusing part of all. I have even been signing with the deaf kids for their amusement. For the first time, some Indian children are getting a look into a physical education.

Firsts

Hello all,

Today I met with the staff and students of the school Bidhan Chandra. I asked the teachers to choose 3 children a piece who they thought could benefit the most from some physical education. Despite the physical challenge, or as one teacher put, the differently abled bodies, all of the students are deaf. So, despite my candid and warm lip service, I will be even more greatly challenged by having to communicate by some sign language and patience. Should prove interesting. I will check back soon.
