To get the formatting right. I'm not going to stress too much about layout and details until there's more content; this is more of a working log than it is a publication forum.

Thanks for the comments on my blog. I would be interested in reading more if you had materials.

So you're a researcher for CIC? the program manager or did they create a new position?

I'm pretty active as a CIC alumn and would welcome more chances to stay connected.

Great news Ed. Good luck in your new position. An office! What a strange concept. The folks in my exercise class this morning were comparing notes on their daily commutes. After 6 years without a commute I find the idea of driving to work strange if not revolting. And I getr to go home after class and collapse on the couch!

Cheers,

@sara: Thanks for the note and thanks for your blog. I'll send you some email w/details of what I was thinking about. My title is "research associate", not "program manager", and I expect that the responsibilities will grow to encompass a lot of what the program manager role did plus some more research aspects. Defining it all as we go, I meet with a faculty group next Wednesday to set priorities.

@richard: The biggest difference in the daily commute is that it's closer to central campus than downtown, so it's a different bus or I just walk. I don't plan to actually be at the office all that much except when I need a place that's quiet to sit and type or make phone calls. With the U's computing environment there are so many computers scattered around that I don't really need to carry my laptop any more, which is nice because it's been sent back to Apple for repairs (sigh).

A slight continuity note:

Postings are made back-dated to when the event took place, so that I can use this retroactively as a calendar of what happened. This might make it a little awkward to use strictly as a blog, since there may be new stuff that's not strictly at the top.

I'm not blogging everything, mostly because there's just too much stuff, and of course some things are best kept on paper or as conversations.

I do hope eventually to hyperlink more and more of these things so that you can click through to links as they go.
