Prep, ME Newsletter, Vol. 6, Issue 36
It’s my month!
This September is the 10th annual National Preparedness Month sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
I take a lot of ribbing for over-scenario-izing.
A lot of folks mistake that for excessive worrying, but it’s not the same thing.
If you work in my office area, you’ll always have access to emergency wardrobe repair. Lose a button, need a quick hem fix, safety pin? You know where to find me.
Need to leave a note, jot down a phone #, pen a self-reminder? I’ve got that in the bag –literally, supplies are in my bag. Along with a bunch of other stuff that I think I, or someone else, might need.
I once packed a small office kit for a video shoot out in the middle of nowhere.
When someone asked for a rubber band, I had one.
I travel to festivals with a small, but well-stocked, first aid kit. Bandaids, antibiotic ointment, sanitizer towelettes, hand sanitizer, nail clippers, ace bandage, super glue, tweezers, occasionally I remember sunscreen.
I enjoy being able to produce random items in weird ways. So, I hope you’re assured - it’s not worry-based. Preparedness is about building a reputation of reliability. My preparedness is really just an extension of caring. Caring for others, and sometimes myself, and, yes, maybe a bit of over-caring sometimes, too.
Of course, I cannot predict everyone’s potential wants or needs. Nor can I predict what GOD wants of me. But, I know HE is prepared. Standing ready with what I might need when the time comes. I’ll just need to ask. I don’t feel adequately prepared for that, yet. My spiritual first aid kit isn’t quite up to par.
(PS. It’s also National Chicken Month! Seriously… http://www.nationalchickenmonth.com/ )
