Hubby recovering

I'm posting this in this category because most of my rants are about how unhappy I am with my hubby. But things have gotten better. One thing in particular I want to record here is how in the past 4-5 months, he has had neurological tremors. His hands and jaw would quiver incessantly. He didn't have the head-bobble of a Parkinson's patient, but tremors he did have made him look like a seventy-year old, not like a man not yet fifty.

So--he stopped taking two medications last week, and miraculously, all the tremours have disappeared! He looks much younger--and is managing the problem that he was being medicated for much better now. It's almost miraculous. I'm so very pleased!

He's been a lot better lately, in so many ways. He doesn't spend ALL his time in his cocoon hibernation room. He's been working, and spending more time with the family. It's been slowly improving since the low point last summer, and I hope it continues improving.

"Love is a present wrapped in a hug." - C Dooley, age 6

When she was 18 months old, my older daughter (M) participated in a UM Psychology department study on young children's language acquisition, and the young researcher was surprised how clearly she spoke, and how well she remembered new words taught to her. She also commented on how M could pronounce her name correctly, while even some of her professors still couldn't--Alecia was her name, and M was always excited to "go to Al-EC-i-a's house" (actually the psychology department's study lab.) When M was 2, we taught her to identify and name the instruments doctors and nurses use in everyday practice. She could pronounce stethescope, otoscope, reflex hammer, and even sphygmomanometer (which is a blood pressure cuff). REALLY impressed her pediatrician! Now she's a high school senior and wants to be a nurse--so THAT worked the way I had hoped!

When my younger daughter (C) was two or three, milk was "muk," brown was "be-owwwwn," the computer was "the compluter," carrots were "carroks," and animals were "amingulls." To soothe herself to sleep, she would "swush" the ribbon binding of her blanket between her fingers. She always asked us to "tickle my back so carefully," which meant to use an effleurage massage technique on her back, which she absolutely loved!

Shakespeare in the Arb, June 2008

I had the pleasure of performing this year in the University of Michigan Residential College's presentation of Shakespeare In The Arb: The Two Gentlement of Verona. There's a nice video by the production's director at www.vimeo.com/1142826

I'm a college graduate!

On December 17, 2007, I graduated from college. I took the long route, the 29-year plan that spanned three different colleges in three different cities.

I was honored to receive my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with Summa Cum Laude honors. My family and friends were there to celebrate with me. It was a really great day!!

Post-Treatment

I went through 5 more months of treatment from January through May. In February, I had to skip a few becuase I had emergency appendix surgery. But I 'graduated' from treatment on my birthday in May--hooray! I had the PAC port removed two weeks later, and only this week did the last of the dissolvable sutures come out. I had a follow-up test last week and it came out clean. I have another this Friday, and I'm hoping for the best.
