trackback final info

What a pain! Findings are as follows:

To create a URL which can be used in other entries to count trackbacks, put a check in the "Accept trackback pings" box at the bottom of an entry (A) OR set your blog preference so that this function is the default. This URL CANNOT be used as the actual link back to an entry - that results in an error. Its only use is placement in the "URLs to ping" box at the bottom of an entry (B). This activates a counter in the original entry (A) and creates a link there to the entry (B) in which the URL is placed. It DOES NOT function as an actual link in the referring entry (B). There will be no indication in (B) that there is a trackback in place without further effort.

To create a link from (B) to (A) and complete the loop, you need to use some HTML code in the entry body. Specifically, remove any spaces after brackets in the following line:

< a href="url of actual blog entry in VIEW SITE format">This is the link text< /a>
For an example:
link to previous trackback testing data

The "< a href=" " comes before the URL, which is followed by " " > ", then whatever text you want to show up as the link, and finally by "< /a >". If you do this in the body of an entry, and put the URL discussed in the first paragraph in the "URLs to ping" box, you will create a cross reference between the two entries.

more backtrack testing

So for this entry I'm checking the "accept pings" box and not putting anything in the URLs to ping box. I will take the URL that is generated and post it to the test blog in the "URLs to ping" box and see if I can jump back and forth.

________
After creating an entry in the test blog as described above, I came back to this entry in the "view site" mode and could see that there was one trackback and, in the actual entry, had a link to the entry in my test blog. However, there is nothing in the test blog entry that indicates any link to this entry or that you can click to jump between the two. I will now try pasting the trackback URL into the body of the next test entry as well as having it in the URL to ping box.

___________
I can now see 2 trackbacks counted on the main page and both test entries are listed at the bottom of the entry. The URL I pasted into trackback 2 is not active, so I can't click on it to get back here, though. I need to do a bit of research to see what it is I need to do to get the test entries to link back here.

_____________
Really random thought - what if I need to use HTML tags in the body of an entry to make an active link, just like I do in LJ? I'll try it.

testing assignment of multiple categories

So I'm trying to see if it is possible to assign multiple categories to an entry. I already know that you can only have one primary category, but theoretically can have multiple sub-categories.

And it works!
