Summer Internship at IBM
Two weeks ago I finished up a three month internship at IBM. I was stationed in Endicott, NY...seriously not the greatest location to be at!
For the majority of the summer, I worked as a usability specialist for an internal application called ThinkPlace (TP). TP is basically a venue for employees to submit ideas to implement cost savings, culture improvements etc for IBM as a whole or specific to their work environment. You can view an overview of my Internship on the career services intern portfolio website.
IBM has a great culture of mentorship and development and I worked with my mentor and another experienced UCD-er to review and help conceptualize my designs and help with any difficult situations that arose. This was helpful for me because I was asked to really act as a the lead usability person for TP because my team was short staffed and could not assign a regular full timer to the project.
