SEAA
Dear SEAA Member,
As your Membership Secretary, I write on behalf of the SEAA Council to announce the opening of our new SEAA website, created especially for and owned by SEAA. You can find it at www.SEAA-web.org. The previous EAAN archives have been moved there, and the site is set up on the lines of EAANnouncements so that we have plenty of scope for announcing dissertations completed, conference papers given, new publications, museum exhibitions, job advertisements, and grant opportunities, etc. As the previous editor of EAANnouncements, however, I must emphasize that this is now YOUR site and the editor, Barbara Seyock, is not culling information herself to mount on it. Therefore, the Society needs YOUR help in creating material for posting on SEAA-web. Please look at the Contribution Guidelines (under the SERVICE menu on www.seaa-web.org) and, following the instructions there, send your material to editor@seaa-web.org. Also if you have suggestions or words of praise for the new website (which are highly deserved!), I’m sure Barbara would like to hear from you. There is an email form under ‘Contact’ in the SERVICE menu.
To kickstart the process of member submissions, I attach a Membership Form, which I need each and every one of you (bar new members who have already been sent one) to SIGN and return to me to comply with the UK Data Protection Act. Your signature is required by law here to keep your details on a computer. The information you send back with your form will also help us fill out our membership database and create material to put on SEAA-web.
In January, we will open the Members’ Area of the website, which will be password encoded. You will each be receiving a password from Barbara, and then you will be able to access information about other members such as mailing addresses, etc. By having you sign the Membership Form and agreeing to the posting of your personal data in this password protected area, we hope to foster closer communications among our members.
Please note that my personal circumstances have changed, and my new contact details are given below. I might also add that I have mounted a special order form for my new book, State Formation in Japan, in the New Books section on SEAA-web. It is good for a 20% discount until the end of December! If you have similar notices about yourself and your work, please let us know about them.
Yours,
Gina Barnes 22 October 2006
