This Week in College Sports- Week 3

Can Anyone Stop Ohio State?

Ohio State beats Wisconsin in a close one, which shoots them up to #1 in the Associated Press Poll, right before the tournament. This definitely means a #1 seed and most likely the favored team to win the NCAA tournament.

This very talented Ohio State team, which three of their top four scorers are freshman, is led by Greg Oden. This monster of an 18-year-old is big, strong, and dominant. Averaging 15.3 pts per game and 3.5 blocks per game, finding a way to stop Oden is not just hard, it is pointless.

Grey's Anatomy: Part 3

Grey's Anatomy is getting WORSE each week

The final part of this 3-part special was very disappointing. Meredith spent a majority of the episode in a special hospital heaven where Izzie's dead fiance, denny, gave her overly-sentimental advice.

Here's a picture of Denny before the writers changed his character to one fit to join the cast of Touched by an Angel

The show has truly strayed from its original approach where the characters' stories develop around events within the hospital. Now, the hospital crises depend upon the characters, as demonstrated by Meredith's decision to drown herself.

On a side note, isn't it interesting that as soon as Meredith was found near-death, all of the ferry boat victims disappeared? I mean it is a bit unrealistic that there was just a huge crash that produced hundreds of victims, but for some reason the entire hospital staff can focus on Merdith.

I truly hope that the Best show on television can return to its roots and continue to produce exciting, funny shows with a lovable cast!

Desperate Housewives Week 3

Two bodies found...(because of two babies?)

I guess I was wrong after all...

I had thought that Orson was a killer, but it turns out that his crazed mother was behind everything. She, being a devout Catholic, killed Orson's father because he cheated on her. Orson was then scarred for life, because Mrs. Hodge blamed Orson.Orson had to carry around the guilt of his father's death for all those years. When Mrs. Hodge tried to kill Bree, Orson came to her rescue and finally realized that his mother was insane. She luckily had a stroke, and couldn't talk anymore either.

P.S. Orson's first wife died too, when she fell off the roof, so Bree and Orson don't have to worry about her...What drama can be in store for them without his mother and [ex] wife.

The reason why they are probably ending the Bree drama is because Marcia Cross, the actress who plays Bree, is pregnant with TWINS, so she cannot get out of bed. I feel this is hurting the show because Bree is one of the best characters, but I am happy that she is finally a mom. Hopefully Marcia won't be as crazy as Bree is!

Cross is normally a very skinny woman, so it's obviously in the shows that she is pregnant. Some of the tactics they use to "hide her pregnancy include:

  • Shooting from only the chest up
  • Shooting the back of her head
  • Shooting stand-ins for real scenes, but only showing the back of her head
  • Shooting body doubles, but just have the body double's hair covering her face

I'm not sure if the show actually looks fake, or if it is just because I know what is going on that I can tell. Either way, it would be better if she just weren't in the episodes because using these techniques, and especially other people as her make the show look ridiculous. The producers should think about this in the future. They don't want their drama to be a JOKE!

24: 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Several important things happened this week!

As I expected, although he is annoying, Lennox ended up not being bad. He was ready to inform the secret services about the asassination of the President.

On another note, Marilyn told Jack about his father threatening her. Jack used his great skills to find his dad, but his dad knows his ways all to well.

By the time they got there his dad had already left. He said he would trade Marilyn's son in exchange for Jack (unarmed). They made the trade, as Jack's dad was about to kill Jack, he disappeared. He left a number in a random cell-phone (that appeared out of nowhere). Jack called it and guess who picks up, ex-President Logan. If you did not watch last years season, Logan was a stupid president that let badd people tell him what to do and got himself into evil business.

On another topic, Morris is breaking down from guilt and decided to buy some whiskey. He says that he spit it out before "it got metabolized". We then find out from Chloe that he is a recovering alcoholic!!!

Lots of anticipation for next week and what knowledge President Logan has.

24: 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m.

This week was INTENSE!

Morris, the CTU computer mastermind, was succesfully kidnapped and brought to Fayed in order to activate the tool that sets of the nuclear bombs. Although he held out for a while, Fayed began to torture him, drilling holes into his body! Morris finally gave in, BAD IDEA! At this point Jack bursts in with his crew and kills all of Fayed's men. Unfortunately Fayed got away, with the tool to set off all the other nuclear bombs. Under extreme pressure, Jack had to disengage a bomb. Very tense!!

After this Jack goes to his brother's wife, Marilyn, and inquires about what she knows. She has heard of the name Gredenko (a lead that has ben connected to both Jack's father and Fayed). Marilyn she can bring Jack to a sketchy house that Graem went to. While doing this Jack's father calls Marilyn and tells her to bring Jack to another adress or else he will kill her son! She brings Jack to that address and it is a trap, there is a big bomb. Another plot going on that this time is Lennox (the annoying sidekick of the president) is getting involved in a conspiracy to kill the President. UH-OH. The question I have is if Lennox is actually bad or if he is just involving himself to find out more. This show never dissapoints me, can't wait for next week!

Grey's Anatomy Part 2

Last night's episode was so good! Meredith has gone missing and Izzie is still trying to save the man trapped under a car. Meanwhile, George is frantically searching for a mother's lost son.

This episode feature the most disturbing scene I have ever seen on Grey's. When the man trapped under the car begins to seize, Izzie calls the hospital for assistance. The chief, Richard Webber, tells her to save the man, she must drill holes in the man's head! However, Izzie is not on site so she must operate with a...

used construction drill

I actually had to pull my covers over my head because it was too gross to watch. I felt like I was six years old again.

George spends the episode searching for the lost boy. It is very sad because you see all the frantic people looking for their loved ones lost in the accident. Thankfully, George finds the boy. However, this is when the episode takes a sad turn.

The plot thickened when Dr. Derek Shepherd, Meredith's boyfriend, finds Meredith sinking into the Pacific Ocean. She has turned completely blue. Despite Shepherd's fervent attempts, he cannot resuscitate her. The other doctors join the effort but Meredith flat-lines!

This is where the episode takes a turn for the worse. Meredith suddenly appears in a hospital heaven surrounded by those who died in the hospital before her. It is unnecessarily cheesey. Furthermore, Izzie decides that the best time to tell George that he made a mistake in marrying Callie is when their best friend is currently dying. Her speech is ridiculously out-of-place.

Despite, the poor ending, this episode was very exciting. I cannot wait for next week when they conclude the story and we find out if Meredith died! Only 6 more days!

Desperate Housewives Week 2

Is Orson Dead?

Bree

This is probably one of the only important questions of the week. Is Orson dead? Mike finally gets his memory back and realizes it was Orson who kills Monique and is framing him.

Mike even had to go to jail because of it. Mike may have a bad history, but I blame the drugs. He's actually a good guy. On the other hand, Mike cannot control his anger! He's has so much rage! Why would he push Orson off the parking garage six stories up!

orson

Orson is actually a bad guy. I have never liked him. Bree always chooses the craziest people to be in love with. She was engaged to the pharmacist, who was obsessed with her, but then she ended up killing him. Maybe Bree will just off Orson as well.

As a side note, when I was searching for pictures of Orson, I came across this spoiler website. I don't know how these people get the information, but bloggers were predicting what would happen in different episodes and it was very detailed and correct.

Check it out!!

This Week in College Sports- Week 2

As Big Dance Sneaks Closer,Duke Bounces Back, Wolverines Are a Miracle Away from Dancing

Wednesday was a big day for this year's college basketball season. For the past two weeks, the talk of the town has been Duke faltering in February, losing four straight games and dropping out of the top 25 after an impressive streak of 184 straight weeks. However, yesterday the Blue Devils had an answer for the doubters, beating a solid Boston College team. I personally believe that you can never count Duke out of anything basketball related. Mike Krzyzewski (shown above) is an unbelievable coach and an amazing motivator. He will get these guys into the tournament on pure will and heart and also prepare them to make a decent run in the tournament. So all you doubters don't count Duke out of your brackets, they will do something.

The Wolverines are quite a different story than the Blue Devils this year. This week the Wolverines went to East Lansing to take on the MSU Spartans. Michigan continued their streak of struggling against good teams, losing to the Spartans and leaving Wolverine fans frustrated. Michigan, 18-9 and 6-6 in the Big Ten, still has an outside chance to go to the NCAA tournament. However, it will be a tough road! In order to have a chance they need to win 3 of their last 4. Their remaining games are Illinois (Away), Minnesota (Away), Michigan State (Home), and Ohio State (Home). Also, one of those last 3 wins must be Ohio State, which is a top 3 team in the nation and basically an unstoppable hurricane-like force this year. So in other words good luck to the boys in blue, but it looks like your going to have another year of playing in the NIT tourney in NYC. My personal opinion- its time for a coaching change! We have the talent, but we have no offensive system or progression of players. Many of these players look just as good as they did in highschool.

24: Introduction

24: One of the most addictive and fast-paced shows on tv!!!!

Jack Bauer is back for the 6th season and up to all of his old antics. He has already killed one person by biting into the mans neck. The show just aired its 7th hour and much needs to be summarized.

It began with Jack being released from Chinese custody in order to be given up to the terrorists that have been attacking the United States. Ofcourse, Jack got himself out of that problem while also discovering that CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit) was targeting the wrong terrorist. The person behind the attacks is actually FAYED. He has a young boy, Ahmed, help him with detonating a small nuclear bomb ("visitor"). The bomb killed thousands, including the only man that knew how to assemble and detonate the nuclear bombs.

Jack followed a lead that connected Fayed to his father's company. This brought a whole new aspect to the show. He goes to see his brother (who the audience knows as the bad guy from the last show) and is suspicious of him. Jack never fails to surprise us and begins to torture his own brother giving no mercy. In this past episode we come to find out that while we were under the impression the brother was the bad guy, it is actually Jack's father!!!!.

There are so many subplots that it is impossible to summarize everything but watch and find out. We have just witnessed Jack's father killing his brother, Graham. Antoher big turn from this episode is the fact that a CTU worker, Morris, is the engineer that the terrorists need in order to set off more nuclear bombs in the country.

I am very excited for a two hour episode on Monday!!!

If you want to see full summaries go to 24 and read a play-by-play of each episode!

Grey's Anatomy Introduction

Who ever thought that life at Seattle Grace Hospital could get more dramatic?

This week on "Grey's Anatomy" the hospital staff faced the tragic effects of a ferry crash. In my opinion, this specific show was unneccessarily gory . I spent more time with covering my face than watching the show because the excessive blood was disgusting to look at. For example, the pregnant woman that Alex Karev pulled out from the wreckage resembled a monkey more than a human being. While I understand that the show wishes to be realistic, it is a drama, not a documentary.

(On a side note, isn't Alex Karev beautiful?)

The end of the first half of in a two-part episode was very exciting! I liked that the show linked the beginning of the show where Meredith almost drowns herself in the bathtub to the end where she gets knocked off the dock into the ocean. However, I am a bit confused about why she cannot swim at all. Couldn't she at least try to reach the surface rather than complacently sink to the bottom of the ocean?

Regardless, last nite's show made me impatient for next thursday. I cannot wait to see how the rest of the plot unfolds! I love " Grey's Anatomy"!

This Week in College Sports- Week 1

FOOTBALL SIGNING DAY!

Wednesday marked the end of a roller coaster of a recruiting season for college football. All the twists, flips, and high speeds that you could normally get at Cedar Point were provided by numerous 18 year olds simply deciding where they would spend the next four years of their education. If you are a college football fan and most students in the Big Ten are you were treated to quite a show over the past few weeks.

More specifically for Michigan Fans, there were three stories worth noting for this year's recruiting season:

Ryan Mallet

This 6ft 7in man of a quarterback is the future of the Michigan program (yes i said 6ft 7in!) He has one of the best arms of the past 15 years and is very happy to be a Michigan Wolverine. Ranked at #4 player overall by Rivals.com and undoubtable one of the best QBs in this year's recruiting class. I think Mallett has the skills and physical attributes to be a 3-year starter and great leader after Chad Henne leaves.

Donovan Warren

Warren is this year's recruiting class's savior. The Wolverine's largest need from this recruiting season were defensive backs and I think Warren definitely fits the bill. He is a fast, physical, and smart cornerback out of California. After most people believed he was a lock for the USC Trojans, he surprised the nation and committed to Michigan. Warren is the #3 Cornerback, according to rivals.com and I expect him to come in and make an immediate impact on the Wolverine defense.

Ronald Johnson

Ronald Johnson will forever be known as the "whale of a prospect" that got away from the Wolverines in 2007. Coming out of Muskegeon, MI, it seemed like a lock that Johnson would be in Maize and Blue for the Fall, however things took a turn during the recruting process and he is attending sunny USC next year. The #1 Wide Receiver on Rivals and a very capable cornerback as well. Ronald Johnson got offers from all over the country, however Michigan seemed the school that wanted him the most. Unfortunately, Johnson didn't have the same feelings and all Michigan fans (including me) are left wondering Why Ronald? WHY!

Search and Discovery

The most interesting search engine that I looked at was www.grokker.com. I think this is a very original and organized style of searching the internet. While I think that it is nice to use if you are doing a more general search, when looking for more specific information it can be frustrating because you are unsure which category Grokker would put the topic under.

For example, when I search for song lyrics on the internet I like to choose sites that are not lyric based because they generally have a lot of pop-ups. Unfortunately, Grokker seemed like an inefficient search engine to find a non-lyrics-based site because of its system of catergorization. I had to click on each individual catergory and search the links within it, whereas with Google or Yahoo I could just browse 50 sites at once.

I do think Grokker is a neat tool that is very aesthetically pleasing and definitely applicable to certain searches, but overall I prefer yahoo and google.

Desperate Housewives Intro

What's up on Wisteria Lane?

Desperate Housewives is a show of seemingly perfect women, living perfect lives, with perfect families, in the perfect neighborhood, but after watching the show for five minutes, it's obvious this is not the case. Each woman has her own deep and twisted problems. This show intrigues me because the women just have so much drama. Nothing seems to go right for them. One of my favorite characters is Susan...

Susan

Susan

Susan always has boy problems. She should just choose a boy already. Susan is obviously still in love with Mike. Why is she even dating Ian? She met Ian at the hospital. Mike was in a coma and Ian's wife was in a coma as well. I feel Susan just used Ian as a shoulder to lean on, and she was so lonely she ended up sleeping with Ian. Now that Mike is out of his coma [PS he can't even remember that he was dating Susan], she has a decision to make. Susan can't be in love with both of them!

IanMike
Rich Plumber
Loving In Jail

While it seems like Ian is the better choice, I feel like her and Mike have more of a connection. I can't wait to see how this love triangle plays out.

Go for Mike! You are meant to be!
