I'm Back!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have arrived back in Michigan safe and sound.

This will be my last entry in this journal and I would just like to thank everyone who has read it and has written me all of the kind comments.

Finished!

Well, I'm officially all finished with my research. Finally! Now comes the fun part: paper writing! And by fun, I mean more fun than the DMV or having a root canal or something similar. Hopefully it won't be all that bad.

Though I won't be leaving Mumbai for another six days, this will probably be my last journal entry until I get home, when I'll post to let you all know I got back to the States in one piece.

All in all, my time here has been quite an interesting ride. It's had its ups and downs, but I think that everything has turned our alright in the end. I've learned a lot about India and about myself in the process. I've done a lot of introspection and it's helped me get a better idea of myself and where I'm going.

To be honest, it would have been great had I come and there hadn't been flooding, a Shiv Sena riot, and train bombings, but there's nothing that can be done about all of that. India, I must admit that you've treated me well. Maybe I'll see you again someday!

I'm Okay!

I'm writing this entry to let everyone who reads this know that I'm okay here in Mumbai. I'm sure everyone has heard the news about the bomb blasts on the trains by now. If you haven't, just go to your favorite news website.

Anyway, like I said, I'm doing just fine. It's kind of a surreal experience, though. One of the blasts happened near the train station in Khar, the neighborhood that is just south of mine. Also, I had just ridden that train line to get to and from downtown on Saturday. I guess I won't be doing that anymore while I'm here.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Monsoon is here, and it's here with a bang. Many parts of the city have been flooded for the past couple of days. Case in point, this is the first time I've been outside of my place since Sunday night. Water didn't come into the building, thank goodness, but yesterday it came very, very close. Other than that, it's just sort of been flooded in general.

When I came here, I thought that it might be interesting to go through a monsoon. And yes, it is interesting, but I already want it to be over. I mean, I enjoy rain and overcast days, but I haven't seen the sun in a week and a half and it doesn't look as if I'll be seeing it anytime soon.
