Del.icio.us

Through working with Delicious this past semester, I have learned a lot about finding information over the internet. In order to post sites, I would search Original Signal and Popurls to find information in technology and entertainment for my blog.

In addition, if I wanted more entertainment news for my blog, I would read the America Online daily headlines or "google" specific celebrities that I had heard news updates on, such as Anna Nicole Smith or Britney Spears.

After I found sites that were of interest to me, or that I used in my blog, I would tag them to delicious for other users to find. In addition to posting, I used delicious to find other information I was curious about. I could use the "popular" and "recent" functions of delicious to find out breaking news that I could potentially use in my blog, or just for my own personal knowledge.

When I would tag websites that I had bookmarked, I would make sure to put every thinkable tag so that readers could find my bookmarked website. I preferred to view my tags as a cloud, so they took up less space and more tags could be viewed at a time.

Overall, I had a satisfactory experience with delicious and plan on using it in the future as a search engine, and to aid others in their searches.

My Delicious new knowledge

Throughout the past semester, I have been tagging websites to del.icio.us on a daily basis. At first, I thought the site was pointless and was annoyed with the assignment. Over time, I explored more of the site's features and realized its value as a search engine.

Most search engines such as google and Yahoo place the websites who pay the most at the top of your search. With del.icio.us, I can see the sites tagged by the most people that are most likely the most useful and definitely most popular.

About half of the time, I would go to originalsignal and find articles on new technology to tag as IT. The rest of the time, I would simply search google , original signal and popurls for sites I found interesting or sites on entertainment, my blog topic.

Del.icio.us definitely proved useful when creating blog entries. I could search for articles other people had tagged on my topic of the week, or add new articles for others to view! Overall, I was very satisfied with my del.icio.us experience and may continue visiting the site even after BIT 200 is over!

Personal Entertainment

This week, I have been out of town in Mexico and away from the entertainment news. So instead of gossiping about celebrities and television, I thought i'd share an entertaining story that happened to me this week. I know i'm not anyone famous, but I think my story will still entertain you.

So I'm staying with my family at a resort in Riviera Maya and they had catamaran boats that you could take out for free if you were an experienced sailor. So naturally, my dad not wanting to pay for a lesson told the resort that he knew how to sail or should I say "understood the mechanics of sailing."
This is the resort that believed we could sail.
Despite our difficulty getting past the crashing waves, we finally made it out into the open ocean. We decide that a pier about a mile down looks like a good destination. As the pier gets closer and closer I suggest starting to turn around since turning was taking my dad quite a distance to do. He refused and wanted to get a better view, so we keep going and discover gigantic pots underneath us that are about a foot underneath the water's surface. These pots prevent our rutter from turning. I start to panic, and sure enough, we hit the pier. Everyone on the beach comes to laugh and watch my dad jump off the boat and attempt to manually turn it. Eventually he succeeds and we are headed back, but we are not in the clear yet! I slowly notice that the sail is starting to cover my body and within seconds I am buried! Somehow the knot came undone when we hit the pier and caused the sail to come loose. I completely freak out as no help seems to be on its way. Finally the Mexican waverunnerers see us and come to our rescue. We soon discover the only way to fix the sail is to knock the boat over into the water and manually re-string the sail. It was a long process that was not injury free, but in the end I got a free waverunner ride back to shore. At first I refused never to sail with my dad again, but then I realized how boring it would have been without all of the calamities, and I signed right back up to go sailing the next day! (Who would've thought my dad would have been allowed to go back out?)

Conclusion

Final Thoughts...

As our blogged progressed, it was clear that Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears were the stars of entertainment this past semester. Anna Nicole lost her son, gave birth to a daughter, died of a drug overdose, and was part of a huge scandal to find the father of baby Daniellynn, whom we now know is Larry Birkhead. Ironically, Anna Nicole didn't contribute anything to the entertainment industry, no music, no movies, no television shows, and yet she has constantly been at the forefront of entertainment news.

Britney Spears saw her fair share of media coverage, as well. With her recent divorce, custody battle, rehab visit, dramatic image change, and nights out with Paris, she has constantly schocked the public and her diminishing fans. Although we have enjoyed covering her many escapades, we have to admit that we hope she comes through and can return to her days of pop music and cute boyfriends.

In conclusion, it has been a blast covering the entertainment news of the past three months. Thanks for teaching us how to do HTML Professor Walls!

As a first time blogger, I found the area in which I have the most interest is current trends and entertainment. My Del.icio.us tags reflect these interests as many of them reference celebrity gossip or most important...clothing! I have tagged several webpages of my favorite designers, many of which are found on my favorite internet side ELuxury.com. Having never blogged before, I did not find the need to track any other blogger's website. I enjoyed searching the web on my own and tagged whatever article title seemed applealing. I have learned about many new technologies, which I would previously have not considered researching, had I not randomly search the Del.icio.us site. Overall, I learned a great deal about how to use Del.icio.us and I plan to continue using its features.

Throughout this past semester I have been tagging many IT sites that I have stumbled upon from surfing the web. I have posted them all to the site del.ic.ous and have around 90 sites tagged. In addition to IT sites, I have also been tagging anything that has intrigued me online such as interesting articles, youtube videos, and fun games that I have found.

Along with these items I have tagged I have been tagging the websites related to the blog entries I have made. Each entry that has a link to a website, is tagged in my delicious favorites. Delicious has been an easy program to use and is a great place for anyone to look if they are looking for some websites regarding IT, entertainment, or simply random webpages.

Happy Tagging!

Along with this blog, I have been surfing the web finding great sites to share with everyone and tagging them to the deli.cio.us website. My personal deli.cio.us tagging consisted of many IT sites, specifically IT that relates to the University of Michigan. I was really surprised to see how many information technology resources the University offers. I also tagged many websites that are hidden gems for those that like to shop, including great sites offering discounts on designer clothes, shoes and accessories. Enjoy!

Sex and the City

Your Girls will Always be there to pick you up!!

I just started watching this show recently because one of my friends made me as we started our usual day of procrastination. It was really good and I really enjoyed it. It is a good show that I would recommend to anyone. I think that the reason it was so successful is because of the fact that there are so many women in their 30's that are not married and this show relates to these women and the problems that women usually have.

It lets you know that no matter what your friends will be there as boys will come and go. In this show the four friends support each other through everything and it is really sweet.

Imus

Imus Gets Cancelled for Racist Remarks

You don’t have to be a huge fan of radio to know the name Dan Imus, he has been the host of “Imus in the Morning” for thirty years, drawing in thousands of fans and quite a bit of revenue for CBS radio. His success was cut short today, however, when he was fired for a controversial comment that caused a national uproar. On Wednesday, April 4, Imus called the Rutger’s women’s basketball team “nappy-headed ho’s,” resulting in a constant flow of complaints and threats from important advertisers like General Motors and American Express.

Normally, I would think that an incident like this could be passed off as a mistake, cushioned by public apologies, but Imus couldn’t get it right. Even after he called his remarks “insensitive and ill-conceived,” he added, “That’s some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos.” He should have stopped at ill-conceived. This is obviously a man who really does have racist tendencies, and for that reason, I agree with CBS and their decision to remove him from his job. Unfortunately, however, the firing of Imus came on the same day that his radio show was supposed to do a huge fundraiser, with a goal of raising $100 million for charities supporting children with cancer and families that have lost babies to infant death syndrome.

If you can’t get enough of this story, check out The Oprah Winfrey Show from Thursday, to nobody’s surprise Oprah brought in ten of the athletes and their coach to talk about the incident.

Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty recently aired on ABC this past fall and has had a very successful season. Starring America Ferrero as "Ugly Betty" this show really is new style of comedy that is entertaining to all audiences. I just started wathcing the show very recently. However what you may not know is that the girl who plays Ugly Betty is in a lot of costume for that show. She is a very nautrally beautiful girl.

She was recently interviewed by the Washington Post and she said that she would never be able to go anorexic. She says that she is comfortable with herself and will never do anything that is not for her. She stated that she never saw herself doing TV roles but Salma Hayek, executive producer for the show, charmed her into taking the role. America Ferraro has already won a Golden Globe for her performances on this show.

DNA results have finally revealed the father of former Playboy Playmate, Anna Nicole Smith's, daughter Dannielynn. It was not her current husband Howard, but her former boyfriend Larry Birkheard who is the father of her baby daughter. I am very glad that Dannielynn will finally be in the custody of her father, but think that it is very sad that 2 months of court hearings had to take place. I hope that Dannielynn finds happiness in her future and learns to love her new father. After the past 6 months of sorrow for the Smith family, we can all be glad to receive some closure with this story and hope for the best for little Dannielynn.

Disney's Lizzie McGuire is all grown up and launching her new frangrance, With Love. This sweet smelling perfume is now selling at many department stores. Hilary has also launched a new record album...also titled "With Love." After listening to this album, I think that this is definitely worth buying, at least for $12.00 on iTunes. Hilary's new album has a pop-rock, club sound with very catchy songs. I definitely would tell all my friends to buy this album. As a Hilary fan since her start on the Disney Channel, I will continue to endorse Hilary Duff in her entertainment career.

Gilmore Girls

The Gilmore Girls are the perfect mother/daughter couple. Rori and her mother, Loreli always tell each other everything and get along like sisters. Seeing as they are only 16 years apart, it definitely seems realistic. Loreli never married Rori's father, Christopher, but at the beginning of the season, they finally tied the knot. After her broken engagement with Luke, I was hesitant to approve of her quick marriage, but who wouldn't want to see a broken family back together? The bad news is, after a short 6 month marriage, Christopher and Loreli are breaking up because Chris thinks Loreli still has feelings for Luke (which she probably does) and can't handle her even being friendly with him.
Which couple is cuter? I personally have a weakness for Luke, with his dirty tough-guy image and still kindhearted personality. He is much more down to earth than Christopher and I think Loreli has more passion with Luke even if she has a history with Chris. Gilmore Girls is such a soap opera, you never know how the tables may turn. This week Loreli is getting divorced from Chris and getting back with Luke, but next week she couple be renewing her vows, who knows!
American Idol's Sanjaya

He seems to have the fans...

American Idol this season has been the same as its past five. While they are in search of the the 6th American Idol, there seems to be one person that gets a lot of press--Sanjaya. Now whether it be his cute boyish look that give him the fans, or because American thinks he has talent, he has remained on the show until now. However, his staying has been slightly controversial as many people wonder why and HOW even he is still on the show.

Perhaps his most recent escapade....the FauxHawk.

On last week's episode of American Idol, Sanjaya decided to sport a FauxHawk. He said that he was inspired by Gwen Stefani and felt that a fauxHawk would help him express his song better. While the audience did chuckle when he came out, he still had many fans cheering at the end of the performance and was seen as one of the last people to leave th autograph signing. Maybe other Idol hopers should take a page from Sanjaya's book and do something a little out of the ordinary to get ahead.
