A Souvenir

souvenir-a usually small and relatively inexpensive article given, kept, or purchased as a reminder of a place visited, an occasion, etc.; memento.

This dried flower is a small memento given to me by my boyfriend on our first walk together in Ann Arbor. It is very special to me because it helps me remember a very wonderful occassion.

Even when I was a little girl, I would collect flowers and dry them to remember a certain area or an occassion. It was a way for me to get a free souvenir that had a lot of meaning to me. When we found this red flower on a bush, we had found it just on a garden that lots of people pass everyday. probably without even giving it a glance of admiration. There's something about paying attention to the little things in life that make flowers so beautiful. I definately noticed how wonderfully saturated it was with this red color and wanted it badly. I keep this dried flower with what remains of my others.

Although this flower was free and the occassion it represents may not be significant to anyone else except my boyfriend and I, it means a great deal to me. I enjoy and appreciate all the good things in life, big or little. :-)

The Little Things
Although, this article is more about appreciation can help those recovering from an illness, I believe in the idea of true appreciation for things having a healing effect. Who knows, maybe my tiny flower will some day save me.
