the paper was very difficult to use when working with larger tattoo designs. so i went through quite a few mess ups. i think the photos are turning out ok. photography and photo editing are not my expertise, so we will see how they turn out.

also, i am struggling with different ideas on integrating the text into the project. and i think i will change this to a wall hanging piece. :/ not sure yet...

here is a preview of whats to come:

So, recently I've been talking to and working with an artist from a local tattoo parlor in town. I've learned that tattoo parlors use a carbon thermal paper to transfer their designs onto the skin. However, the artist has informed me that the paper is slightly expensive, require a thermal printer, and tend to become more permanent the longer they stay on the skin. These are all things that I am going to take into consideration.
My alternative is to buy temporary tattoo inkjet printer paper. My concerns about this is if it will look cheap because of the thin film that hold the design to the skin. There are lots of different brands and makers of this paper and is worth a try to check out.
Of course the third choice is to hand draw everything on the skin, but I am worried about messing up since that would be a one shot deal. And it would have to come out perfect as I draw the entire thing, opposed to have a design and just being able to place it on the body as the other two options.

I've been teetering whether or not I should pick a story that is well known to the general public or a story that hasn't gotten much limelight. I want to choose one that is quite shocking. The tales in my books for the "Disneyized" stories don't have as much of a shock value and isn't as grim as "Godfather Death."
If I do do a more well known story this could work in my favor because the public will relate more. If I choose a more unknown story then I benefit from exposing a new story to the public. Also, even though this tale is not quite well known, the author is. So, maybe retelling this story more will come as a shock!

Hmmm...

So, I've finalized my project idea for this semester. I am going to integrate the art of tattoos with fairy-tales from Grimm's Fairy Tales. I find that tattoos successfully combine images and graphics with words to create amazing compositions. I've been so interested in tattoos for a long time, and I myself house four right now on my body. I wanted to try and illustrated in a traditional tattoo style, but I also kind of want to explore drawing tattoos in my own illustration style.

What I am going to do:
- pick a fairy-tale, an interesting one. Something completely NOT Disney. So many stories have been "Disneyized."
- illustrate the story in forms of tattoos and tattoo sleeves on people's bodies. also narrate onto the body the story.
- photograph these images.
- create a new age kind of story book.

I think I've chosen a story. "Godfather Death" seems morbid and alternative enough. :)
It is striking in the sense that within the first three paragraphs the father in the story denies God and the Devil... more to come. :)

My current idea for this semester will be an exploration of graffiti styles and urban artists' illustrations. I find that graffiti integrates both words and images in such a cohesive way that I cannot pass up the chance in this class to portray my feelings for this art.
I would like for my project to be all hand drawn by myself exploring the different styles of past and current graffiti. I would like to make a collection of graffiti illustrated on found objects. My graffiti will be showcased on objects that wouldn't be expected to house graffiti art (ex: inside books, cups, plates, wood panels, leaves, light bulbs, and anything else I can find).
As I develop my idea, I will finalize my proposal.

The period of Nazi rule in Germany (January 1933 to May 1945) and particularly the years of the Second World War (1939-1945) saw the attempted annihilation of the Jews of Europe, and the enslavement and destruction of millions of people from many nations. During the Holocaust six million Jews-including one and a half million Jewish children-were murdered. Nazi Germany's system of concentration camps, ghettos, murder squads, and killing centers engulfed Europe, and attempted to destroy ethnic populations and entire cultures. The horrifying success of the Nazi plan required he cooperation of hundreds of thousands of willing participants and the acquirescence or indifference of millions more.
Here we honor Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat whose heroic actions to save tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews in 1944 are a contrast to the collaboration and silence which dominated Europe. A 1935 graduate of the University of Michigan College of Architecture,Raoul Wallenberg was taken captive by Soviet forces at the end of World War II, disappearing from sight but not from memory.

As I walked down the street from Rackham, this monument caught my eye. I'm not sure what pulled me in closer, because normally I don't stop to randomly read signs, but I think it was the position of the man in the statue. From behind, I wasn't sure he had a head... then I just wanted to look closer at how the structure really was built. So, I ended up reading the signs to understand the statue and this is what I concluded: Monuments are an amazing way to give respect to people and events. I feel as though everyone who looks at the statue or reads the signs can give a little admiration to the person(s) or event.
I'm not sure how many people actually read the signs, but I hope they do. I'm glad I did, because I want to pay respects too.

In this modern era, our environment rarely consists of forests, rolling plains, or plentiful foliage. Even in Ann Arbor, our environment is mostly overwhelming buildings, sidewalks, pavement, and a few trees and some grass here and there. My observation towards our environment is the number of cars that grace our prescence. Many of us may not notice these noisy, busy machines flowing through our streets because they are just part of our naturalcity environment. Cars and the traffic they cause emulate the rivers that use to outline our land. As they slowly drive down State Street, I can't help but imagine water flowing. I feel as though those that drive cars are unaware of their autmobile's presence in the backdrop of our environment and those on the street can tune them our of their line of sight. I began to realize cars more as I was walking through Central Campus looking for an environmental condition. It hit me that cars were our modern condition. Within our forests of buildings and our sidewalks of grass, dirt, and foliage, cars are like our water sources. They pool together in parking lots like lakes and wind around our buildings like streams and rivers.
